"I Bought a Blackberry"

I'm not always up on the latest technologies living here on Cape Cod. A lot of friends of mine who live "off Cape" always rave to me on how they really enjoy and can't live without their "Blackberry" as they can keep in contact with their e-mail and the Internet.

I was shopping recently at BJ's Wholesale club. I enjoy BJ's, and have fun shopping there and most of the other shoppers seem to enjoy BJ's as well. Many times there are free sample stations throughout the store so you can grap a little bite to eat while you shop. I noticed near the electronics section of the store there were some boxes of "Blackberries" for sale with two "Blackberries" per box for $9.99 I think it was. I thought to myself "Wow!, That's a LOW PRICE!" so I bought a box.

When I arrived home it said that I had to plant these "Blackberries" in the soil and water them. These "Blackberries" didn't really look like phones or computer connected devises but maybe this is the "New technology version" for the "Blackberry" as I have read that cutting edge computer scientists are experimenting with organic computing power so maybe this is the first series of this new technology and they had to offer it at a low price to gain public acceptance and market share. These "Blackberries" kind of looked like antennas and I'm not sure where you talk into them but it did say to wait until mid-Summer to harvest them so maybe the other parts of this communication devise grow over time. I hate to wait that long to use for my new communication devise but at this low price I guess I can't complain too much. So, I guess until mid- Summer I'll just have to use my current cell phone.

" Hey!, You Aliens!, I'm not Talking to you! So Buzz OFF!"

Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking - Times Online Here's an interesting article from renowned physicist Stephen Hawking with probably some sound advice. (Click the Link). He advises us humanoids not to talk to Aliens. Yes, species from other planets may have different values than us residents of the third rock from the Sun (AKA Earth). Maybe these Aliens will come to our humble little planet and take all of our resources and yummy sweets like "Ring Dings" and "Devil Dogs" or those tasty "Little Debbie" pecan treats. Maybe the Aliens would come down to Earth and round us up so that we could be their pets like we have pet dogs, cats, and hamsters. Maybe these Aliens would want to eat us like we eat cattle, pigs, chickens, and frog legs. So, it is up to you but me personally; the next time I run across an Alien from another planet, star, or galaxy, I'm going to follow this sage advise and not talk to them.

Besides, How do we know what languages these Aliens speak? They might not even speak English. I wonder if you speak to an Alien and the Alien doesn't speak or understand the language; are you really talking to these strange non-English speaking Aliens? I don't know.

Finger Lickin' Good

After Kenzi's Baptism

Hiking in Simsbury

Here's a photo of me and brother Scott as we were hiking in Simsbury, Connecticut last weekend after attending a baptismal ceremony and party for niece Kenzi. Before returning to the Cape we hiked up the Simsbury hills near a small waterfall. On the way to hiking up the trail I noticed a car parked in front of us with a Simsbury Crew bumper sticker. While hiking I ran into a fellow near a small bridge above this waterfall and said "Did you row for Simsbury Crew?" He said "Yes, how did you know that?" I replied, "Well, I saw a car at the bottom of the hill with a Simsbury Crew sticker on it." He said " I didn't park there, I parked way over on the other side of the mountain but I did see a couple on the trail so that was probably their car."
I was one of the founding members of the Simsbury Rowing Club back in 1971 along with about thirty other Simsbury High School students.
Either I am very psychic and can spot a former Simsbury High School crew member when I see one, or most former Simsbury High School rowers are also hikers, or maybe it was just a coincidence.

'Hey, Where's My Seat!"

Yesterday I went to an "Alice In Chains" concert in Providence at the "Dunkin Donuts Center". I remember when the tickets first went on sale a while back that I was on the computer precisely when the tickets were put on sale at 10:00 in the morning. I bought the tickets and was pleased to see that I had tickets for Row F seats 13,14, and 15. The diagram on the computer showed some seats up front and then an open area on the arena floor.

When we arrived we were surprised to see that the concert was "general admission" or first come first served open seating. That was a change from me bragging about how good the seats were before the concert. I said to the usher , "Hey, where's my seat?" We were tempted to go to the people who were in approximately where row F seats 13,14,15 were and ask to see their tickets as they were in "our spot".

It was nice to see Jerry Cantrell and the rest of the band including their new lead singer William DuVall who sounds very very similar to former lead singer Layne Staley, co-founder of the group along with Jerry Cantrell. It was fun being "on the floor" and I was able to "Hit some of the balloons" that were bouncing around above the crowd although a few times I would try to hit the balloon only to find that the balloon was further away from me than I thought but luckily I didn't accidentally hit anybody in the face or the local police would have probably have taken me away in chains for assault and I would have been "Rick In Chains".

"Big Bird"

I saw this "big bird" this week on a rainy misty morning in the back yard of a house near where I live on Cape Cod as I was inspecting this home for an insurance inspection. This wild turkey walked right across the yard and wasn't afraid of my presence at all. Poor bird, must have gotten lost because everybody knows that most of the turkeys are found in the halls of the US Congress in Washington D.C.

Back2Back

Congratulations are in order to the University of CONNECTICUT (UCONN) Huskies Women's basketball team for winning their second National Championship last night over the Stanford Cardinal and finishing the year 39-0 for the second straight year for a total of 78 wins in a row and counting. The lady Huskies trailed 20-12 at halftime after missing 16 shots in a row and tying their school record for the lowest points in a half. I wonder if they decided amongst themselves before the game started and said something like "Let's see how many shots we can miss and how poorly we can play on the offensive side of the game and give Stanford the feeling that they can beat us. Then, in the second half of the game let's go ahead and play like we usually do and win the game and championship." That is what happened but I don't know if they did plan the game that way or they just took a while to settle down. For all their lack of an offense in the first half by UCONN; Stanford only scored 20 total points themselves as a team so the Cardinal failed to capitalize on the CONNECTICUT scoring drought. All Americans Maya Moore and Tina Charles woke up in the second half along with the rest of the LADY HUSKIES and as they say "The rest is History" and another Connecticut victory. Yes, victory 78 was great and victory 79 will be fine as the UCONN women's basketball team continues to smash their own previous record of only 70 victories in a row.

'I'M A FLUKE?

YouTube - Deteriorata (Fluke of the Universe) Remember this song? "You are a fluke of the universe"?. It is a National Lampoon take off of the song "You Are A Child of the Universe". Click the You Tube link if you wish to hear this song for the first time or to reminisce on your life when this song was semi-popular. I'm not sure if I agree if I'm a fluke of the universe; from what I understand a "fluke" is a type of fish. So, if I'm a fluke of the universe then I'm some sort of fish? I don't think so, that sounds kind of fishy to me. I am a human being. I am not an animal or a fish for that matter although technically human beings are mammals which in turn are animals. BUT, animals for the most part can't type on computers like I'm doing right now ( with the possible exception of one or two trained apes or chimpanzees but even then I bet I know a HECK of a lot more English words than they do. Sometimes though I DO fold, spindle or mutilate but that doesn't make me a fish in my honest opinion.
